Mary Jane Blackburn Smith is a native Houstonian and is married to Judge Jerry E. Smith, Firth Circuit Court of Appeals. They are the parents of four adult children: Ruth Ann, Clark, J.J., and Brandon. She is a graduate of Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis, Missouri. She has done graduate studies at the University of St. Thomas and Rice University and received professional certification in NSFRE from Rice University.
Smith’s professional career has centered on the Texas and Houston political world for over four decades.
She has served as a political consultant to Presidential campaigns and an advisor to United States Senators and Congressmen, mayors, and many other elected officials and to governmental and private sector initiatives.
She has served as a delegate to two Republican National Conventions and was a Presidential Elector. She is the founder and president of The MJS Group, a political consulting and fundraising firm.
Mrs. Smith has served as a Harris County Republican Precinct Chair for forty years as well and as a Senatorial District Chair.
She served as Executive Director of the Harris County Republican Party under chairs Nancy Palm and Ray Barnhart.
She is founder of The Texas Conservative View, a general purpose Political Action Committee (PAC) and Small Cities, America, a local Republican Club servicing the small cities within Loop 610.
While politics is her profession, Mrs. Smith has actively served our community as a ten year member of the Harris County Historical Commission, a Harris County Grand Juror Commissioner, a member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities and Chair of the Development Board of Catholic Charities, a member of the Incarnate Word Academy Board of Advisors, President of the Pope John Paul II Texas Foundation, a thirty-five year member and officer of the Charity Guild of Catholic Women, and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
She has served as a Director of The Texas Judicial Foundation.
She is an active member of the Braes Heights Civic Association. Smith is a parishioner at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
