LIT was actually going to update the related case when we discovered this latest criminal case against Edward Rene.

Everything is pretty much sealed on the docket, limiting our review. It appears he was granted bond in this case and still out on bond, despite the seriousness of both criminal charges.

A former assistant dean of admissions at Texas Southern University’s law school is facing additional charges after facing theft counts back in 2020 for a scheme that involved stealing money from the university.

Edward Rene allegedly induced a minor to engage in sexual acts in June 2018, according to court documents obtained by LIT.

They go on to state there are also photos.

The court ordered that he will not have contact with the minor and can’t supervise, or participate, in any activity or program where there are minors.

The district attorney’s office stated the minor had no connection to TSU.

“Edward Rene is a former TSU employee who was immediately reported to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office after learning of the financial allegations against him. TSU representatives were not made aware of any other illegal conduct,” a spokesperson said.

Those financial allegations refer to 2020 when the former assistant dean of admissions was charged with theft.

The district attorney’s office said in that case, Rene had awarded double scholarships to at least two students, made them return the extra money, and pocketed it.

Rene’s next court appearance is set for March 2023.

“Summons Outstanding”(as at today’s date)

…refers to a legal document that has been issued by a court ordering a defendant to appear in court to face criminal charges, but the defendant has not yet been served with the summons. Essentially, it means that the defendant has been charged with a crime and a summons has been issued, but the defendant has not yet been officially notified of the charges and ordered to appear in court.

Once the defendant is served with the summons, they will be required to appear in court on a specified date and time to answer the charges against them. Failure to appear in court can result in additional criminal charges and a warrant for the defendant’s arrest.
